Linda, Mommy, Mom, Mimi. Small stature, yet large in the lives of so many. Born to Lynne and Ernest (Ernie) DeLucco on July 1, 1958. Sister to Sandi and Nick. Wife to Steve of 42 years. Mommy and then Momma to Stephen, Lindsay, and Lauren. Mimi to Ellie, Stevie, Blair, and Danny.
“She was my baby sister, but grew up to be my big sister,” per her brother. He also shared that she was never shy about keeping him in line. She attended Englewood High School and got her psychology degree from Florida State University (FSU). She met her husband to be, Steve, at Glenn & Penny Wallace’s house, mutual friends of both at the time. They initially butted heads due to mutual dislike for the other’s Alma Mater, but eventually fell in love, marrying on July 23, 1983, in Jacksonville, FL.
She worked as a travel agent until her pregnancy with her first-born, Stephen Craig English Jr. Stephen was followed by Lindsay Elizabeth English and Lauren Nicole English. Her “work” would become her commitment to raising these 3 children, and she was very involved in all their activities and extracurriculars. “She was as good a wife as she was a mother,” stated her husband, Steve. She took care of everything at the house and let him concentrate on his medical practice. “She was not only the toughest person I ever met but was a beautiful and kindhearted woman. She thought about everyone but herself.” Her motherhood extended into the life of her niece, Bonnie, and her children. At the end of her life, she added the role of raising Lindsay’s girls, after her tragic passing. She loved her family so much. “You can do anything you set your mind to” was a constant echo in her children’s ears. She derived great pleasure in their accomplishments…and she often had a big role to play in them. Academically, she spent nights quizzing her children or helping them with homework and assignments through their time at Bolles. Athletically, she was always there as a cheerleader on the sidelines. Classroom mom and Team mom were both roles that she filled throughout her children’s lives.
So intricate, so detailed, she was a perfectionist in so many ways. You hadn’t seen organization unless you saw one of her “projects”. This intricacy made her a master of her home, and there are few that rival her. Christmases will never be the same without her decorated iced cookies. Speaking of holidays, this woman went “all out”. She took such joy in transforming her home to reflect on the season or holiday that was next in line. Birthdays were also a big deal. She made birthdays feel like “Disney World” for the person being celebrated.
In addition to her family and her home, she loved her friends. Some friends come and go, but a friend like Linda stays in your life forever. Linda was a best friend to so many. These friends are who they are today because they knew her…and they have all been changed for the better. They often spoke about her thoughtfulness and her energy.
Regarding this energy, the woman didn’t stop. When she visited any of her children and their spouses, the schedule would be full. If activities weren’t planned, she would take to organizing something…the kitchen, the bedrooms, the closets, the garage…all were fair game. When she was with you, you got all her attention. She made you feel noticed, feel cared for, and feel important.
Her “happy places” on earth were Disney World, at the beach, and with her English Bulldog, Maggie. She loved walking on the beach and looking for shells and shark’s teeth. Regarding Disney, there is no telling how many times she visited, but our estimation is well over 100. As her children got older, the love for travel was re-invigorated, and she loved seeing new parts of the world with family and friends.
She was raised Catholic and came to know Jesus intimately through a local Bible study with several of her friends. Catholicism would remain important to her throughout her life. At 7 p.m. on August 27, 2025, at the age of 67, she left this world and walked into the presence of her Creator in all His splendor and Glory. The pain of this Earth left behind, we can only imagine the all-encompassing love she must’ve experienced, as her daughter, Lindsay, ushered her into Jesus’ arms.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at one of Linda’s favorite places, Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, September 2nd. The address to the venue is 200 Ponte Vedra Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL, 32082. In honor of Linda, we hope you’ll come dressed in a way that feels comfortable yet respectful. Light, cheerful colors are encouraged, as we want this to feel more like a celebration than a somber occasion. Sundresses, skirts, slacks, and collared shirts are all welcome. We kindly ask that you avoid shorts or formal black attire.
