My body, my earthly shell, finally gave out after fighting and living with colon cancer since 2008. I drained every quality minute I could from my body and it was a wonderful, beautiful, incredible life filled with lots of love, learning, and adventure.
I was born in NJ in 1958 and grew up and went to school in North Caldwell. At 21 realized I didn’t like shoveling snow so I moved to Florida in 1980. My parents, Ed, Sr. and Lorraine Dean and my brother Ed, Jr. followed shortly thereafter. My dad and grandmother and grandfather have predeceased me so I’m spending some great time with them right now. My life-long friend Linda Fowlie Johnson also moved to Florida soon after in 1983 and we moved to Daytona Beach where we met and lived with a wonderful friend Robin Michaels.
I met my first husband Michael Rogers on Daytona Beach as he was playing at a job selling condominiums. We got married in 1984 and moved to North Carolina while he was in the Marine Corp. While there we met a very special couple Gerald and Susan Eubanks who we became very close to. After NC, we were able to spend three wonderful years in Hawaii. Thanks, Michael, you were a wonderful part of my life and I love you. Michael and I have a very special, beautiful daughter Tara who is currently married to Heath Johnson and who gave me a wonderful grandchild, Collin Lee Johnson. Michael and I were married for six years and ended up in Jacksonville, Florida.
I met my second loving husband Ronald Fake in Jacksonville in 1990 and we married in 1993. Ron treated me like a queen for the 18 1/2 years we were together. We enjoyed 42 cruises together, traveled extensively, laughed, loved and lived for the day. We spent some wonderful years at our lake house and had some incredible fun times with our very good friends, Bart and Gen, Mark and Darlene, Corb and Faye, Julie and Steve, Pat and Steve and Bill and Mary.
Ron and I are members at Swiss Cove Christian Church in Switzerland, Florida. The many members and my friends at Swiss Cove all contributed to teaching me, by example, the love of Jesus Christ. They are very, very special people that God brought into my life.
A Memorial Service which will be a Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5th in Swiss Cove Christian Church, 1965 State Road 13, Switzerland, FL 32259 with Minister Jim Jacobs as Officiant.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, marked for Colon Cancer Research.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223. www.hgmandarin.com (904) 288-0025.
