I'm saddened to hear about Mr. Hurst.  He was my boss for a very long time at Independent Life/Fire.  He truly was a very smart business man who kept you on your toes.   No slacking in his department.

I have thought about him many times since 1995 when I left Independent.  

It would have been an honour to have attended his service.  Farewell my friend from one of your favorite redhead employees, 🌟😎

I know people come into your lives at different times for different reasons.   We were newlyweds when we moved in next door.   Three kids, three house remodels, countless birthday parties, family gatherings,  bar passages, job losses, job changes, many a tough decisions and celebrations along the way and Lloyd celebrated and encouraged us each step of the way.  He was one of the first people we told when we were expecting our children and he inspected “all of their little fingers and all of their little toes” upon  arrival from the hospital.   My kids would make crafts that you could not explain or decipher and Lloyd would make them feel like little Picasso’s!  He was always happy to see them and when we were ready to scream because they were being too wild or had gotten too dirty or made too big of a mess, he always stuck up for them and brought reason and logic to even the biggest disasters.   We all learned more history from him than history books.  Lloyd was a living example of the importance of family and commitment and service to our country.  Although we never met his beloved wife Gene, he spoke of her often and in turn taught us a lot about tolerance and unconditional love in a marriage.  While we are so saddened by Lloyd’s passing, we are happy that he is back with Gene planting flowers and grilling out with Roger.   To my kids’ first friend and all of our oldest friend, we miss you and hope you know what an impact you had and continue to have on all of us.  We are better people because of your friendship and the many lessons you taught us.  Until we meet again may you rest in eternal peace.  Much love - The Barnett Family
