Lucille M. Rood

Lucille Mary Moss Rood of Arcadia, Louisiana was born November 13, 1923 and passed away peacefully on January 26, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Albert David Rood (Bert) of 62 years, her parents and one brother. Lucille is survived by her three loving daughters, Debbie Rood Byrd (Clif), Becky Rood, Lori Rood Miller, granddaughter Leigh Ann Miller, and her brother Bobby along with several nieces and nephews.

Lucille attended Millsaps College and after graduating moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she met her husband, Dr. Bert Rood. After Bert graduated from Tulane University Medical School, they moved to Jacksonville in 1950 where Lucille helped him start his medical practice.

Lucille had many passions. She was a founding member of Ortega Forest Garden Circle, a member of Ortega United Methodist Church and a member of Timuquana Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf with the Ladies 18 Holer’s. She and Bert were very involved in a group of close golfing friends that traveled together known as the “Goofy Golfers.” Lucille loved to entertain, was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time in her beautiful garden.

Lucille’s greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She walked with God and always had words of wisdom, guidance and encouragement for everyone she met. She was known by many of her friends as “Lucy”, reflecting her charismatic and witty personality.

Lucille will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

A celebration of Lucille’s life will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Boulevard. A reception will follow thereafter in the Fellowship Hall.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucille’s name to OUMC. The family is grateful for all the expressions of love and support that we have received.
