Magdalena Goldade was born on October 25, 1928, in North Dakota. She was the second child of 7 children of John and Maria Eva Sander Goldade. Two of her siblings, Anton and Mary, did not survive infancy. Maggie, or Magdalen (her preferred address), was predeceased by her father, John (1989), mother, Maria (1985), sister, Sr. Alverna (Christina) (2018), and sister Cecilia Lauringer (2020). Her husband, Robert, died in 2018.
Maggie is survived by two brothers, Peter (wife Karen) and James, as well as 5 nieces, 1 nephew, 3 grand nephews, 1 grand niece, and 2 stepchildren, Denise and David.
Maggie grew up on a farm in North Dakota with no electricity or indoor plumbing. She attended a one-room schoolhouse for 8 years. She did farm work, including milking cows at 30 degrees below zero. She attended St. Francis Catholic High School and shortly after entered St. Francis Convent as a novice, but discerned not to pursue a vocation in 1950. She later joined the United States Air Force for 6 years as a flight attendant for soldiers in transport and was honorably discharged. Following her Air Force career, she worked in the United States Postal Service. She met her future husband, Robert, there. They were married in 1981.
Maggie enjoyed her time with Bob very much. She became a Gator football fan and loved to travel with him in their R.V. Bob died in 2018.
Maggie, throughout her life, attended daily mass. She practiced sincere devotion to Mother Mary, Divine Mercy, and Eucharistic Adoration. She was a Franciscan Third Order member. She spent hours each day in prayer. One of her greatest joys was her husband, Bob, becoming a Catholic shortly before his death.
Maggie was a go-to person for prayerful intercession. I suspect that even in her death she will remain so. We all will miss her.
