Georgia and has made Jacksonville her home since 1973. She is predeceased by her husband of 61
years, Sanford Forrest Shell. Marie leaves behind her son, Sanford Robert Shell, her grandchildren
Robert Forrest Shell (Laura) and Laura Lee Ballard (Mike) and her great grandchildren Hannah Lee

Marie touched many lives both through her artistic talents and her philanthropic works. An artist
nearly since birth, her gifts have been recognized nationally and internationally in over 150 juried
exhibitions, 50 awards and inclusion in at least nine art books. She was elected to signature status in
the National Watercolor Society, as well as six other societies and was a charter member of the
Jacksonville Watercolor Society. Her work hangs in many galleries, museums and private collections
around the world and she has donated hundreds of works to charities and charitable causes. Marie also
loved music, Jazz especially, and she taught piano for 13 years. She delighted in the thought that her
spirit would live on through her art long after she was gone, and she prayed daily that her life would
make the difference in this world that God had planned for her.
To know her was to love her. Her talent, strength and determination were inspiring, as was her
generosity, kindness, and love toward others. She will be deeply missed, and she left this world a better
place.
Due to current circumstances, the family will have a closed graveside service on April 8th, at Oaklawn Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Please check back. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her name to Firefighters for Families, 3657 Gaines Rd, St Augustine, FL 32084.
