 It was my pleasure in meeting Marjorie about 10 or 11 years ago when I was visiting my sister in Jacksonville.  I had emailed her on several occasions.  She actually sent me articles about one of the prints that I had purchased that was in the newspaper. But one of my last pieces of correspondence with her was  asking where their studio was located.  She promptly answered my email with the address to Carlton's studio. Imagine my surprise when my sister and I arrived at the address to see that it was not only Carlton's studio but their home. We were welcomed into their home. Both Carlton and Marjorie showed us around and my sister and I  saw many many works of art that were completed or in progress.  They actually took the time to show us the illustrations that were done for several books .  It was truly a pleasure meeting both.  I came down yesterday to see my sister and looked up his website and found that Carlton had passed away several years ago and that Marjorie had passed away more recently. I was so sad to see this news and my heart goes out to their family and friends. Marjorie and Carlton were both one of the warmest couples I have met.  Marjorie was one of the kindest and most person I have met.  I am sorry for your loss.

"As my mother once told me....."  How many times I've used those words over the years I do not know. People thought it unusual my siblings and I called her Marjie. But she said "It doesn't matter what you call me; it matters only how you call me it."  She taught me the old standards like "a stitch in time saves nine" and "a watched pot never boils". But there were words of wisdom like "the only time it's permissible for a women to use profanity is when she's using a sewing machine." Or "never pass up an opportunity to sit down or use the restroom."  But beyond her words was her gentle kindness and her incredible attention to the comfort of others. Her positive outlook on life is a great part of her legacy that lives on in the lives of her children and grandchildren and friends.

She was the world's greatest mom, and a fantastic inspiration to all her boys and to Julie.

In my sympathy note---I meant to say I visted in Marjorie`s home on the St. Johns River.  Julington Creek was stated in error. Apologies to the family.

Marjorie was a wonderful person that I had the pleasure of knowing through her activity in the political world.  Many times did I visit in her home on Julington Creek and I well remember the Christmas tree with its balls having a puzzle piece written on them.  A very unusual tree that it was, but it had real artistic beauty.  The food served by Marjorie was always delicious.  I especially liked the seafood chowder served to Christmas guests.  She will fondly be remembered by me.  My sympathy goes out to each one of her family.  Just happened to read of her death in today`s paper and I felt compelled to write.

Doug, I am saddened to hear about the loss of your mother.  I am keeping you, Dot, and your family in my prayers.

Margie was such an inspiration, a bright smile of encouragement and treasured individual. I am honored to have known her and Carlton and to call her friend.

My deepest sympathies to the Wilder family.  Reading this tribute gave me a real insight into the beauty of this lady.  Knowing her son Doug, and what a wonderful man he is, I know it is because he had a kind and loving mother to influence he and his siblings.  It sounds to me as if you all were blessed beyond measure to have had such a sweet loving mother.  May God comfort you until you meet her again.

Memories of Marjorie go back to the early '60's when Carlton and Conrad worked for Harry Radcliffe. I had a new baby and was struggling to get my master's degree. I remember well her constructive comments on a paper I was writing--Tristan and Isolde--which impressed me no end. Marjorie wrote delightful notes and set beautiful tables. Her bright mind and bright countenance will be long remembered. My thoughts are with the family at this sad time. Special thanks to Jeff for his call yesterday. With all good wishes, Carolyn Gentry
