Martin K. Wheelis, age 75, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012. Martin was born May 14, 1937 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late H.D and Iwilda Wheelis. He attended Statenville High School and was a graduate of Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from Colgate and the Duval County Schools.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lanelle; four children, Randy
Wheelis (Susie), Donnie Wheelis (Amanda), Denise Peavley (Walter),
Marla Faulkenberry (Kevyn), four sisters; Agnes Swilley, Grace
McBrayer, Ira McDaniel and Jeanette Culpepper. He also leaves seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon on Monday, August 20 in the Chapel at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn, with J. Wayne Owens and Cameron Mullis officiating. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service with interment following the service in Oaklawn Cemetery.
