Meredith Alden Alexander tragically passed away on December 19, 2016 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 33. She was born on October 7, 1983 in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Stanton College Preparatory High School in 2002 and Marymount Manhattan College in New York City in 2006 with a B.A. in Communications.
During her elementary and middle school years, Meredith was an active member of 4-H and learned of community volunteerism and altruistic giving. She learned to sew, modeling her outfits in 4-H fashion shows, thus beginning her lifelong love for all things fashionable. She learned the subtleties of communication and persuasion in 4-H debate competitions and State legislative camps which prepared her well for winning arguments as her parents and friends can attest.
Meredith was an athlete at heart beginning with dance at the age of four and continuing through high school. She also competed on the track and field and cheerleading teams in high school where her powerful strides and strength were a thing of beauty.
Meredith was strong willed, smart, determined, forthright, caring, witty, clever, and fun. She had a radiant smile and an exuberant laugh that filled the room with joy. She had a special love for animals and, much to their dismay, enjoyed dressing her cats in seasonal attire. Most recently, her caring, gentle side was evident in her love for her dog Sweeper, who comforted her during difficult times.
Meredith was honest in sharing her stories and her journey and reached out to others who were also fighting their way back to sobriety. Meredith often spoke and wrote of the loss of her two dear friends, who loved her unconditionally - Asher Marie Williams (1984-2007) and Shadd Bieber (1983-2012) - whose tragic deaths left a huge hole in her heart. The world has lost the light of these three young people, and we hope they have found peace. Meredith is survived by her parents, Sarah H. Bohr of Atlantic Beach, Florida and J. Nickolas Alexander, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Marshall, of St. Augustine, Florida; her older brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Lisa Alexander of Ft. Myers, Florida, her older sister, Raechel Alexander of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four aunts, Beverly Alexander Henry, Gretchen Bohr Browne-Courage, Karen Brown-Courage, and Katherine Alden Bohr; a great uncle and aunt, Richard and Georgette Bohr; a niece, Ivana Alexander and three nephews, Nicholas II, Anthony and DaVaughn Alexander; and cousins Emilie Roesler Courage, Stephen Alden Courage, Noah Alden Goldberg Bohr, Rae Peterson-Wright and her children, Nicole and Kameron Peterson.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, John Nickolas Alexander, Sr. (1912-1982) and Ruth Evelyn Alexander (1917-2014); Kenneth Alden Bohr (1919-2012) and Rev. Gwyneth Griffin Bohr (1920-2009); and her uncle, George Henry (1936 -2015).
