Mildred S. Hackney

Mildred Schmit Hackney, 78, loving wife and mother died peacefully March 29, 2014, surrounded by her children, daughters-in-law, and several of her grandchildren. She was the daughter of Frederick Edward Schmit, Sr. and Mary Suter Schmit, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her loving spouse of 45 years and her soul mate, Russell Gray Hackney.She is survived by her children: Debra Peak (Roy), Diane Ben Ghabri (Rachid), Teresa Smith (Don), Michael S. Hackney (Tara) and Thomas R. Hackney (Dee Ann); a brother, Aubrey Schmit (Joyce) of Kannapolis, NC; a sister, Kathryn Howard (Tom) of Olney, MD; twelve grandchildren, Jason, Chris, Kim, Jeni, Brian, Scott, Jessica, Karyn, Noah, Rachel, Kayley, and Kyler; and eight great-grandchildren, Trey, Haley, Vana, Dalton, Alex, Sophie, Sebastian, and Grayson. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew; sisters, Mae Vinson, Theda Jones, Mary Schmit; and brothers, John Shepherd, Jr., Russell Shepherd, Frederick Schmit, Jr. and Joe Schmit. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in St. Joseph’s Historic Catholic Church, 4214 Loretto Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32258. Burial will follow in the Old St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
