It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grammy Nancy A Baker who left us peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on April 26, 2025. She was a beacon of love, warmth, and kindness in our lives and in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born in Berlin, Wisconsin to William and Adelia Sackett Ihland, she and her family moved to Miami, Florida when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Coral Gables High Class of 1958.
Nancy dedicated her life to her family and community. She was the heart and soul of our family, a nurturing presence who brought us all together with her infectious laughter and unwavering support. Whether it was baking Christmas cookies in her cozy kitchen with the grandchildren and then great grandchildren, sharing stories from her youth, or offering wise counsel in times of need, her love knew no bounds.
Nancy was not just a mother and grandmother, she was a friend, confidante, and a source of inspiration. Her generosity extended beyond the family, as she was actively involved in volunteering at the Jacksonville Symphony and The Florida Theater. Was politically active in her younger years. She touched countless lives with her compassionate spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
She married George Baker in 1958 and graduated from nursing school in 1975. Emergency nursing and then Cruise ship nursing was her favorite. She traveled the world with George, and bowling and golf were her favorite hobbies.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents William and Adelia Sackett Ihland Yappa; brother William Ihland, Jr.; and sisters Nela Cruthis and Virginia Godwin. She is survived by her husband George Baker; her children Steven Baker (Jean), Susan Callahan (Gene), Sherry Bishop (Brian); grandchildren Kelly Kaufman (Nathan), Kyle Callahan (Shandell), Carrie Callahan (Daniel), Jordan Bishop and Ali Roura (Danny) Brett Parker (Jessica), Kyle Parker (Kelly), and Trey Parker (Ashley); great-grandchildren Parker, Ella, Kaiden, Tristan, Demi, Jack, Josie, Julian, Nolan, Maddie, AJ, Andrew, Adam, Owen and Hayden; sisters Jan Roberts (Kirk), Sandi Hadley; brother Roger Ihland; and numerous nieces and nephews she adored.
Each of us carries a piece of her spirit within us and we will honor her legacy by embodying the love and kindness she so effortlessly shared.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, her love will continue to illuminate our lives. Rest in peace, dear Grammy; you will be forever missed and always cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be designated to the Jacksonville Humane Society, which she loved.
The family will host a Celebration of Life in the near future.
