

Neal Ross Major, a spirited and sociable figure in his community, passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 101 in Jacksonville, FL. Born on December 2, 1922, Neal led a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a successful entrepreneurial career.
Neal proudly served in the Marines during both World War II and the Korean War, displaying immense bravery and commitment to his nation. After his military service, Neal founded and operated Major's Furniture and was involved in David Gray Plumbing.
He was a fixture at the San Jose Country Club for over thirty years. He was a season ticket holder for both the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars and an avid tailgater for both.
Neal was a devoted family man, survived by his daughter Susan Bryant (Russell) and son Ross Major (Dorothy), along with grandchildren Gary D. Gray (Stacey), Patti Hernandez (Pedro), Heather Zabinsky (Ryan), Mallory Hydrick (Richard), and Miranda Anderson (Brian). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Peyton, Travis, Ainsley, Connor, Landon, Riley, Harper, Hudson, and Grady. Neal was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ruth Einig Major, and daughter, Patti Hillegass.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice, honoring Neal's compassionate spirit. Neal's legacy of warmth, courage, and friendship will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
