He was born in Brooklyn, New York. He met his high school sweetheart, Gaye on August 15, 1964, married her in 1970 and lived in Des Moines, Iowa during his medical training, and then moved to Jacksonville in June 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Gaye of 44 years, his son, Todd Sager, Daughter, Jennifer Zunic, and son-in-law, Andrew Zunic. He has two beautiful granddaughters, Alyssa and Ashley. He will be missed by all of his family, including a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, colleagues and patients.
Dr. Sager attended college at Hofstra University and graduated with honors. He then attended the College of Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated in 1973. He was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He started his private practice in 1976. Since 2007, he practiced with North Florida Obstetrical and & Gynecological Associates, P.A., and he was a Clinical Investigator for Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research. He practiced continuously in Jacksonville, Florida until his death.
Dr. Sager didn’t seek accolades but many were bestowed upon him. He received the Physician of the Year Award in 1991 at Memorial Hospital. He was a Clinical Professor at University of Florida Medical School. In 2001, he was the Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Memorial Hospital and was a member of various committees at the hospital, all geared toward improving patient care.
Dr. Sager was loved by so many people, not only his family members but the countless physicians and patients, whose lives he touched. He cared immensely about all of them. He took extraordinary time and effort to provide the best of care and attention to his patients. He will be deservedly mourned by everyone whose life he saved, whose precious children he delivered, those who could not have children were it not for his skills and whose lives he made better by his exceptional talent.
We have never known anyone so loved by so many as Neil. His interest in all of those that he touched was genuine and selfless. He devoted all of that extra time to his family and his work - those were his passions.
