

Ms. Flowers was born in Lake Alfred, FL to James Edward Boyd and Ethel Boyd on November 4, 1941. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1959 where she was an avid softball, basketball, and volleyball player. Following high school, she received her nursing degree from the Orange Memorial School of Nursing in Orlando, Florida in 1962. After many years as a registered nurse in a hospital setting, Ms. Flowers joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida in Jacksonville and spent the next 25 years as a Medical Analyst conducting Medicare fraud review. Following her retirement in 2005, Ms. Flowers enjoyed soundly beating anyone and everyone at Scrabble, spending time with her family, crafting, painting, and her pets.
Ms. Flowers was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings Lee Coker, James Boyd, Cynthia Evans, and Melrose Ferguson. Ms. Flowers is survived by her daughter Christa Flowers Figgins (Michael) of Oklahoma City; her former stepdaughters Angela Flowers Carreras (Raul) of Ocala, FL and Andrea Flowers Groon of Raleigh, N.C.; her niece Lorna Evans of Tampa, FL; her nephew Stanley Evans of Auburndale, FL; her nephew Danny Coker (Janine) of Hurricane Mills, TN; and her great nieces Krista Coker of Saint Petersburg, FL and Carissa Coker of Nashville, TN.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the love and care shown to Ms. Flowers for the past 3 years by her dear friends Tuleeca Buttery, Susie Dominiak, Linda Echevarria, Amy Glendenning, Angela Irizarry, Michaela McLeod, Sarah McLeroy, and Michelle Tully.
A lifelong lover of animals, Ms. Flowers supported several charities that provide low-cost veterinary services and care for abandoned and homeless pets. Those wishing to honor Ms. Flowers' memory are encouraged to make a donation in her memory to First Coast No More Homeless Pets (www.fcnmhp.org)
