

Norma spent her early childhood in Hickory, NC and later moved to Jacksonville, FL. with her mother. She attended Kirby Smith Junior High, where she enjoyed cheerleading and track. She then attended and graduated from Landon High School in June of 1959.
Norma pursued a career in Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Florida Junior College in 1972. In 1978 she graduated from University of North Florida with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Norma had a wonderful career in the field of Nursing. She started her career in Psychiatric Nursing where she was a Psychiatric Nursing Instructor at Florida Junior College, she then moved to a position at University Hospital in the ETU Psychiatric Unit. Norma’s career continued as a Program Director of the EMS Department at Florida Junior College. She later became the Director of Patient Education of Joslin Diabetes and afterwards a Program Director of Advantage Diabetes of Riverside Hospital. In her advanced career stage she became an Account Manager at Health South, Network Synergy and Senior Home. Upon semi-retirement, Norma and her husband Ron Dorsett bought a business in 2009, “Emergency and Safety Educators Group”, where they taught CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens. In 2018, they sold the business and Norma continued part time up to 2020. She retired at the age of 79.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, Raymond Hamby and Sadie Rodgers (Church). She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ronald W. Dorsett, her daughters, Kim (Robert) Clarke, Karen (John) Goodin and her son Eron Dorsett. She also is survived by her eight grandchildren and her four great grandchildren, Jessica Wise, Renee Wise, Michael (Kahla) Jurney, John Goodin, Katie Goodin, Erin Dorsett, Evan (Emma) Dorsett, Bella Dorsett and her great grandchildren, Faith Jurney, Graysen Jurney, Frank Jurney and Shannon Morales-Wise.
Norma was a long-time member of Resurrection Episcopal Church where she was a proud member of “Daughters of the King”, a member of the choir and a member of the Vestry.
Norma was happiest when she was enjoying time with her family, her church, her dogs and her ladies prayer group. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her husband, attending concerts and events with her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she loved watching them in sporting activities, band and other school events. She loved her church, her prayer group and her dear friends.
Norma’s family invites you to her Memorial Service which will be held at Resurrection Episcopal Church, 12355 Ft. Caroline Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32225, on August 8th, 2024 at 11 A.M. A reception with family and friends will follow afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Daughters of the King (in c/o Resurrection Episcopal Church) or to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
