

Norman Louis Schubert passed away on May 16th, 2017 after a twenty year battle with prostate cancer. Norman was born on March 31, 1940 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He spent his early years working at the Somerset Rose Nursery which was owned and operated by his father. After high school, Norman attended Furman University, from which he graduated with a BA Degree in Business Administration. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah. Upon completion of college, Norman attended Officer Training School and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Air Force. His many duty stations included tours in Vietnam, England, the Pentagon, Louisiana and Las Vegas. While assigned as the Chief of Intelligence for the 32nd TFS at RAF Alconbury in England, his unit was selected as the Outstanding Intelligence Unit for all of the United States Air Forces in Europe. After a tour at the Pentagon, Norman was assigned as the Director of Intelligence at England AFB, LA. While at this duty station, his unit was selected as the Outstanding Intelligence Unit for Tactical Air Command. His final duty station was Nellis, AFB, in Las Vegas. He retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel with 20 years of service. His military medals included the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals and the Air Force Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he remained in Las Vegas where he owned a successful insurance agency until his eventual retirement in 2000. He and Betty then moved to Jacksonville in November of 2000. He thoroughly enjoyed Florida and continually commented that each day was just another day in paradise. He loved fishing, playing tennis, traveling and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Jacksonville Jaguars and Auburn Tigers.
Norman is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty; his daughter, Kimberly; son, Brian; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 1st, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32225. Interment is scheduled at 2:30 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
