

Rice “Taylor” King, son of Andre Rice King and Virginia Taylor King, died peacefully on Monday, May 11, in Atlanta, Georgia, a few weeks after his 90th birthday. Dr. King dedicated his life to the practice of psychiatry, beginning with his service as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and proceeding through nearly 60 years in private practice. A Jacksonville native, Taylor studied at Vanderbilt University, then practiced for many years in Baltimore, Maryland before returning home to Jacksonville in 1971. Dr. King served as medical director of St. Johns River Hospital, and later Charter Hospital, both in Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara King Jones Shurley; and is survived by his wife, Earline; son, Andrew; daughter in-law, Cherie; granddaughter, Trinity; step-granddaughter, Jill; nieces, Ginger Ramsdell and Barbara Parish; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, May 16 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, followed by burial at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville.
