Richard E. Griffin, age 60, passed unexpectedly on Monday, July 11th, 2016. He was born August 17, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Wolfson High School and Florida Junior College at Jacksonville. He worked for many years at Art’s Window Décor with his brother-in-law, Art Frazier.
Rick is predeceased by his parents, Jesse Elliott Griffin and Essie Lee Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margete; son, Ben; sisters, Alma Alexander, Elizabeth Pittman, Shirley Frazier (Art) and Deborah Garrett; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorie Sparkman. Also mourning his passing is a host of nephews, nieces, friends and cats.
Rick was a gentle, loving soul with an easy laugh and great bear hugs. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle, as well as a mentor and “Daddy Rick” to many of Ben’s friends. He loved surf fishing, NASCAR racing, spending time with his tribe, and helping Margete with her art projects and shows.
A celebration of his life will be held at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 16th, 2016.
