

Richard Terry Messick Jr. passed away surrounded by his family on September 22, 2024. He was born on April 4, 1934 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He graduated with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida for the last 45 years. He worked with the U.S. Defense Department and then with U.S. Customs through the Department of Treasury for over 35 years. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa/papa, son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and eating a good dinner out with them. He also enjoyed walking, working out, and singing with the choir at Resurrection Catholic Church prior to his health challenges over the last few years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jean Messick; two sons, William Messick (Alison) and David Messick (Bonnie), one daughter, Kim Taylor (Trey); five grandchildren (Nicholas Taylor, Lacey Taylor, Matthew Messick, John Messick and Sean Messick), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, located at 940 Cesery Blvd, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Catholic Church located at 3383 University Blvd N. Following the funeral mass, there will be a graveside service at Arlington Park Cemetery, located at 6920 Lone Star Rd. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in honor of Richard Messick to Catholic Charities or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
