

Robert “Bob” L. Harris, age 83, passed on Monday, January 19, 2015. He was born on July 7, 1931 to Leonard and Luvada Harris in Shady Grove, Florida. He moved to Jacksonville at the age three, where he went to school in Jacksonville and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After high school, he served his country in the US Marine Corps. Many came to know him from the two terms he served as Duval County Commissioner. Bob later became involved in the construction business building homes and churches. He found his true niche when he became involved in housing for the homeless. He founded Four Liberty Center which provided safe and decent housing for 443 homeless individuals.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan and daughter, Terri. Bob is survived by his son Robert Jr and wife Cathy, son John and wife Tamara; daughter Betsy and partner Debra; grandson T.J.; granddaughter Heather; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday January 22, 2015 at the HENDRICKS CHAPEL, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, January 23, 2015 at THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bob’s name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
