Robert Kenneth Miles, 85, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, following a long-term illness. A man of intellect, ambition, and a deep love for his family, Robert’s legacy spans from the early days of software entrepreneurship to the open skies he loved to navigate.
Early Life and Education
Born on May 30, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, Robert eventually made his way to Florida, where he would become a fixture of the Jacksonville and St. Augustine communities. He attended Jacksonville University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. It was during his time at JU that he met the love of his life, Susan. The two were wed on June 29, 1963, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted until her passing.
Professional and Personal Achievements
In the early 1980s, Robert’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Management Information System Group. As the creator and steward of the software company for several decades, he was a respected figure in the evolving tech landscape.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was a man of many passions:
• Aviation: One of his proudest milestones was earning his Private Pilot License with a Single-Engine Land rating.
• Athletics: He was a dedicated fan of Jaguar football and an avid golfer. His love for the game took him across the United States and around the world, seeking out the finest greens.
• Leisure: When not on the golf course or in the air, Robert could often be found immersed in a Clive Cussler novel.
Family and Legacy
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Miles; and his brother, Richard.
He is survived by his three children, who carry on his memory: Gregg (Valerie) Miles, Erin (Thomas) Beck, and Melissa Barry. He also leaves behind a growing legacy of six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, a family memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate a life well-lived.
