MILLER - With great sadness, the family of Robert Warren Miller, announce his death on Friday, June 3, 2016. Bob was born on March 24, 1939 to Harlan Ward and Dorothy Drake Miller. Bob was fascinated with the military since early childhood and with great persuasion, convinced his reluctant parents to let him enlist in the US Navy at the age of 17. He loved all things “haze, grey, and underway”. His early adventures included tours of Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Africa, and New Zealand. Later, Bob also had tours in South America, Italy, and Greece. He retired his happy career of 22 years of Master Chief. In 1965, he married his best friend, Diana Huyghebaert, a young student nurse that he met on a blind date. They enjoyed the last of his Navy career and settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he went to Jones College to get a BS in Accounting, in 1981. Bob’s second career included time as a tax auditor with the Florida Department of Revenue and finished his career as a tax manager of JEA. Bob was a good man, a fierce defender of right, a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a good neighbor and friend. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Diana of 50 years, his beautiful daughters Wendy M. Griffis and her husband, Jason, Julie M. Haines and her husband, Steven, and grandsons, Nicholas, Kyle, and Nathan. He also leaves behind his sister, Joan Balunis and her husband Joe. A Memorial Mass will held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32211, on June 17, 2016 at 11:00 am and the committal service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors, 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, FL 32218 on June 27, 2016 at 11:00 am.
