

Roger Dupont Curry, 77 years old, passed of natural causes in his home on the evening of December 20, 2023. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend. We find peace in knowing that Roger is now forever amongst his beloved stars.
Roger was born on September 15, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida to Everett Curry and Edna (Dupont) Curry. He graduated amongst the Landon High School class of 1964, and thereafter attended Jacksonville University. During this time, Roger met Rosemary (Russell) Curry, and the two were married in February 1968. In 1966, Roger interrupted his education to serve his country in the United States Navy. His first child, Laura Gilmore Duffey, was born March 27, 1969. His second child, David Scott Curry, followed on December 4, 1972. In 1972, Roger completed his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at LaGrange College in Georgia. He went on to have a fulfilling career in both the US Navy Reserves and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in the communications department. At the time of his retirement, Roger had dedicatedly served 22 years and 30 years, respectively.
Outside of his career, Roger was an accomplished astronomer, an avid learner, a reader, a traveler, a mathematician, and a student of the Spanish language. He was a dedicated member of the Northeast Florida Astronomical Society (NEFAS), the First Coast Freethought Society, and the Jacksonville Atheist/ Agnostic/ Secular Meetup Group. Roger had a lifelong hunger for knowledge, a passion for science and math, a deep appreciation for other cultures, and a natural inclination for being social. His vast network of cherished friends sparked joyfulness in his life and remains as his legacy. Above all else though, Roger profoundly loved his family. His two children, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter were the pride of his life.
Roger is survived by: his two children, Laura Gilmore Duffey, and David Scott Curry; his grandchildren, Aubrey Jean Hoekzema (Dillan Hoekzema), Preston Lewis Duffey, Madison Jaye Gilmore-Duffey, and Sydney Gilmore-Duffey; and his great-grandchild Tatum Jean Hoekzema. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Everett Curry and Edna Curry; and his brother Milton (Skippy) Curry.
Roger Dupont Curry had a gentle spirit and a heart for all things learned. He was highly intelligent and always kind. The world is a better place because Roger was here. His family and friends thank him for giving us the privilege of knowing him. Roger will be cremated, and his family intends to spread his ashes under the starry night sky that he so loved during his life.
