

Samuel Gilmore Crews Jr., born November 18, 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in his hometown of Jacksonville. He was the beloved son of the late Samuel Gilmore Crews Sr. and Frieda Syfan Crews.
Samuel shared a remarkable marriage of over 63 years with his devoted wife, Faye Mathis Crews, whom he married on October 28, 1961. Together, they built a loving family that includes their three sons: Steven Gilmore Crews (Carol), Jeffrey Scott Crews (Alexis), and Andrew Lathan Crews. Samuel was also a proud grandfather to Joseph Crews, Justin Crews, Holly Crews, Mikala Crews, Tyler Crews, and Morgan Crews, as well as a great-grandfather to three cherished great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his siblings Frieda Sims, David Crews, Stanley Crews, Carol Harris, Elwell Crews, Evelyn Carter, and Hazel Sauvage. He is survived by his siblings Allen Crews (Virginia), Charles Crews (Gail), Robert Crews (Janice), Alice Crews Youngblood, and Raymond Crews (Rita).
Samuel dedicated over 42 years of service to the Air National Guard, including more than 25 years in Civil Service as Air Base Security. After retiring from his distinguished military career, he embarked on a second career at Publix, where he found joy in connecting with members of his community.
A man of deep faith, Samuel was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church and attended both Faith United Methodist Church and Lakewood United Methodist Church during his life.
Samuel’s legacy of service and devotion to family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those he leaves behind.
A visitation for Samuel will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 with a reception to follow.
