Sandra S. Akel

Sandra Susan Akel, 43, died Saturday after a prolonged struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on June 9, 1972 in Jacksonville, FL to Salem and Siham Akel. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1990 and attended Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Sandy was always known for her sense of style and fashion. She followed her passion and fulfilled her dream by opening Cheveux, a full service nail and hair salon. Sandy is survived by her loving father and mother; four sisters; Jean Martha (Iskander) of Lexington, KY, Lorraine Tadlock of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Althouse (Daniel) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Marsha Martin (Eric) of Jacksonville, FL; one niece and five nephews; and her beloved cat Skitz.

Visitation and a rosary service will be held Tuesday, September 15 from 6-8pm at St. Matthews Catholic Church. Funeral services will be on

Wednesday, September 16 at 11am at St. Matthews Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sandy may be made to St. Matthews Catholic Church.
