Sara Elizabeth Breeland passed peacefully on November 9, 2022 in the loving arms of her daughter under the compassionate care of the Community Hospice team. She was a gentle, kind soul whose memory will be deeply cherished!
Sara spent her first 18 years in Warren County, NC surrounded by the support and stability of family, school, and church. Particularly influential during her early years was her beloved grandmother Lizzy, who she credited as her role model. Sunday visits to Lizzy's home -- which sat on acres of fruit and nut trees and beautiful gardens, was a favorite activity for Sara and her four siblings. She vividly described memories of being welcomed with open arms to a home filled with handmade decor and the aroma of lavender. Meals and treats prepared with homegrown produce were served by a roaring fire.
After graduation from high school, Sara trained as a secretary and was hired as a research secretary for the entolomology department at NC State. There she met her husband of 70 years, Sam. A true helpmate, she was his rock as he established a stellar career that required many, many relocations. No matter how many times she had to start over, Sara prioritized providing the most loving, nurturing, encouraging, supportive environment for Sam and their daughter imaginable. She also served her communities, volunteering for church and school activities whenever needed.
Like her grandmother, she added an artistic flair to every activity and every hobby, from meticulously sewing clothes and curtains to oil painting to working on craft projects to planning dinner parties to fashion to decorating to adding that extra garnish to a home cooked meal...
She loved and sought natural and cultural expressions of beauty--classical music, ballet, art museums, poetry, gardens...
She had a passion for learning and was a voracious reader on a broad range of subjects. She and Sam traveled extensively after retirement, and she loved to take the related enrichment classes and educational excursions.
Sara was known for her beauty--inside and out. She truly lived by the teachings of her Christian faith. Her greatest expressed desire has always been to give and to serve whenever and however she could, and she did so daily with a genuinely pure motive. She shared a smile and an encouraging word of support with everyone she met.
Sara Elizabeth: warm, loving, nurturing, gracious, kind, wise, professional, giving, gentle, compassionate, tranquil, supportive, encouraging and a source of strength for all who had the fortune of being on her path.
