She was a native of Jacksonville, born in the Riverside area and grew up in South Jacksonville. She was a graduate of Landon High School, class of 1939. Following graduation she served her country as a Navy Wave during WWII. It was in Pensacola, Florida where she met her "Chief", Jesse Wayne Miller. They married in 1946 and after living the life of a Navy family settled down in Mandarin in 1960 with their four children.
Sarah was a full time Navy wife and mother. When her children were all of school age, she began working as a Library Assistant at Loretta Elementary School where she retired. After retiring she kept busy with volunteer work at Crown Point Elementary, various Wisteria Branch Garden Club activities, and, of course, her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a true Southern Lady who placed importance on manners and kindness. She had an amazing wit and her warm hugs will be in our hearts forever.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, brother Cecil Eppes Shine Jr., and her sister Carolyn Shine Marshall. She is survived by her younger brother James Munnerlyn Shine, her children Daniel Wayne Miller (Wanda), Jane Wallace (Ray now deceased), David W Miller(Jerry), and Ann Miller as well as her Grandchildren Leigh Ann Miller, Daniel Miller(Angela), Jennifer Healey (Quill), Julie Wallace, and Jessica Wallace as well as many nieces and nephews. Our thanks and appreciation are extended to the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living and especially to her care team at River Garden Memory Care for their loving attention to the final years of a long and well lived life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 2nd at 10:00 AM at St Paul's Episcopal Church 5616 Atlantic Boulevard followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her name be made to St Paul's Episcopal Church or River Garden Hebrew Home.
