
Jane Whitehurst Shaffer, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016, surrounded by loving family at her residence in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on September 26, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jane grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended Auburn University then began working at UAB where she met and later married her husband of 54 years, Dr. Parker W. Shaffer.
Jane is survived by her three sons, Lee (Lisa), Lindy (Sally), David (Anne); and six grandchildren, Candace, Lee Jr, Megan, Tyler, Parker, Blake; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Carlos.
Jane was a dedicated and loving mother whom for years could often be found attending the sports activities of her sons, working at Lilly Jane’s, Garden Gates of San Jose and The Southern Touch. She was also a competitive mainstay on the tennis courts of San Jose Country Club. She and Parker lived life to the fullest, and were happiest in the company of their large extended family and close circle of friends. Avid travelers, the Abacos, Bahamas was always a favorite destination. As the family reflects on the years of cherished memories; food, fun, and laughter remain the common thread. Jane will be missed and fondly remembered by all.
