Silvia Llanso Puente passed away in Jacksonville, FL on June 22, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born in La Habana, Cuba on November 6, 1927 to Enrique Llanso and Isabel del Barrio Llanso. She leaves two sisters, Isabel Llanso Castellano of Miami and Mercy Llanso Arias of Jacksonville. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Antonio Arturo Puente; two sons, Antonio Enrique Puente (Linda) and Enrique Antonio Puente (Sue); five grandchildren, Krista Puente Trefz (Greg), Enrique Antonio Puente II, Antonio Nicolas Puente, Lucas Llanso Puente (Jill) and Alexander Ahern Puente; and two great grandchildren, Kaya Trefz and Rylan Trefz.
She was raised in La Habana, Cuba by her parents and her dear Alejandra Martin (nanny). She graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s School in Philadelphia, PA and completed her education at the La Habana Business School. Due to the Communist regime, she and her family immigrated to the United States on November 6, 1960. After a short stay in Miami they left for San Antonio, Texas where she and her family resided before settling in Jacksonville, FL in 1962. She taught elementary school at St. Mathews Catholic School and Assumption Catholic School retiring after 30 years of teaching. Though she enjoyed teaching (especially math), she loved helping children develop. She was known to pinch the children’s ear when not paying attention giving them a “Chico”. To this day her students are found in all walks of life including some of the doctors and nurses who took care of her during her last days.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her circle of friends went far and wide, and she was always eager to extend a helping-hand while adding to her never-ending list of friends. She loved conversing, canasta and her late in life tennis and gym activities at the Ponte Vedra Club. As a devout Catholic, she enjoyed her Catholic Mass and rituals. Most of all, she liked a good party that included family, friends, plenty of food and beverages, music and late hours (even into her 80s). She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her expanding family. If someone could script how a life should be lived, Silvia would have been a model.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday (today), June 24, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Jacksonville FL. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
