Stanley Wayne Fanning

February 18, 1943 – October 30, 2024

Wayne Fanning, beloved father, grandfather, and a true friend to many, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024. Born on February 18, 1943, in Grandenfield, Oklahoma, Wayne moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in the late 1960s, where he built his life and made a lasting mark on the community. Wayne fought bravely to the very end, surrounded by the love and support of his family.

Wayne is survived by his children, Ken Fanning and Sheila Fanning; his grandchildren, Ashley Machado, Amber Maturo, Anna Cole, Alex Cole, Brittany Fanning, Megan Paterson, and Taylor Fanning; and his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Declan, and Izzy Paterson. He was blessed with the companionship and unwavering devotion of his girlfriend, Marla Langille, whose loving care brought great comfort and added precious months to his life. The family is profoundly grateful for her love and dedication.

Wayne was the proud owner of J and W Discount Store, which he operated since the early 1990s. Known as the go-to destination in Jacksonville for quality products at unbeatable prices, Wayne’s store was a reflection of his keen eye for a good deal and his dedication to his community. He found joy in discovering treasures at garage sales, always in pursuit of the best bargains. But his deepest passion was his mandolin, which he played with extraordinary skill and heart. Known across Bluegrass circles as one of the finest mandolin players, Wayne’s music brought joy to countless people around the country.

Wayne will be remembered for his warm, caring personality, his kindness, and his enduring love for his family and friends. His spirit and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Family, friends, and all who cherished Wayne are invited to join in remembering and honoring his remarkable life.

A funeral service for Stanley will be held Monday, November 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at The Chapel of Corey-Kerlin, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32211.
