Stephen Allan Monk, 53, passed away peacefully Friday, June 12, 2009. Stephen was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 1, 1955 to Roy D. Monk, Jr. and Annie R. Simmonds. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Paul Simmonds and two brothers, Marshall and Danny. He is survived by his mother Annie R Simmonds; father, Roy D Monk (Betty); sister, Diane Sholar (Rickey); brother, Rodney Monk (Cheryl); sister, Glenda Heller; and several nephews and nieces. Stephen had a passion for playing and writing music. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk and later became a Union painter in Jacksonville. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 16 at Evergreen Cemetery (Gate #6), with Rev. John Eason officiating. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service, at the graveside.
