

Stephen Matthew Scoggins, 36, a loving son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 1, 2025. Born on August 2, 1988, in Jacksonville, Florida, Stephen lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and kindness. At the age of four, Stephen discovered his love for gymnastics, a passion that grew as he competed in numerous competitions and achieved the status of Elite Level 10 gymnast with USAG. His dedication to the sport continued as he became a gymnastics coach, inspiring and mentoring countless athletes with his expertise and encouragement. At the time of his death, Stephen was a Rescue Swimmer Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Instructor with the Public Safety Diving Association. Stephen was preceded in passing by his mother, Sharon Tull; his adoptive mother, Joyce Scoggins; and his grandparents, Wilbur and Dorothy Register, Mildred Crews, and Joan Weigle. He is survived by his father, David Scoggins; his brother, Michael Scoggins (Chrissy); his sisters, Sarah Tull and Melissa Kennedy (Eric); his aunts, Patricia Randall (Stephen), Cindy Gialdini and Brenda Curbow (Dave); his uncle, Douglas Register (Victoria); his nieces, Meagan Mayotte (Michael) and Alexis Scoggins; and his nephews, Thomas Scoggins, Eric Kennedy Jr., Kodie Kennedy, and Jacob Hein: and his faithful feline friend Skippy. A funeral service to honor Stephen’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Moniac Cemetery in Moniac, Georgia. Stephen will always be remembered for his love, dedication, and the inspiration he brought to all who knew him.
