Steven Grant Millan, age 67, moved to the glorious city of Heaven on May 6, 2025. He was born on September 6, 1957 in Jacksonville, Florida to Bill (James William) and Genny (Geneva Waldron) Millan. Together, they built their custom residential construction business, Millan Builders, Inc. Prior to joining the family business, Steve worked for many years in the construction field honing his skills with the dream and determination to one day bring his absolute best to Millan Builders. By the time he became a business partner with his parents, he was sought after for his exceptional skills as a “finish” carpenter and a Master Superintendent. He was involved in every step of the home building process from the ground up, and all the way to completion by beautifully landscaping the properties himself. It is safe to say that no one ever outworked Steve or had higher professional standards. That was part of the essence of Steve; he was intense, loving, loud, and both stubborn and loyal to the core. He used his many gifts and talents to deliver the finest custom homes with attention to detail and exquisite finishes. Perhaps his finest contribution and professional accomplishment was when he followed in both of his parents footsteps by becoming a Certified General Contractor.
Steve was predeceased by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his only child, the heartbeat and pride and joy of his life, his beloved daughter, Kylie “Olive” Millan, and by his sister, Sandra Millan Frendt, her husband Scott, and their three sons Shay, Sean, and Spencer Frendt. Steve will be remembered by his large and charismatic personality. A lover of people, he enjoyed making friends everywhere he went. The favorite days of his youth were spent outside playing baseball and sailing the high seas on his family fishing boat, the “White Cloud”. As his life unfolded, he developed a passion for gardening in his absolutely epic backyard garden and fruit grove and then joyfully preparing its bounty like a master chef caught up in a wild and fun “dinner and a show” tornado. He always fully enjoyed the beauty of nature and loved spending time at the family homestead and hunting lodge in South Carolina. By far, his most prized and exciting days were the memorable trips to the mountains shared with his daughter, his Kylie girl, whom he often called his precious “Footie”. Steve loved watching the stars through his telescope and jumped at any opportunity to sit back in an adirondack chair, admiring “God’s Country”. How amazing it must be for him to now be among those stars and to be his angel daughter’s Angel!
Steve could see the beauty in anything and often documented the great and small moments of life with his poetry. We cling to, and lovingly share, the Heavenly perspective he offers in these excerpts from the poem “Apart for A While” that he wrote and delivered for his mother’s eulogy:
How comforted we are to know that you too, Steve, have reached that blessed shore. You are a million miles from misery and with our Almighty Savior and in Praise forevermore! With God’s grace one day we will be there too with all of you. Until that day, we will hold your memory close and try our best to reflect His Light in all we say and do.
The family will hold a private memorial service in South Carolina to honor Steve’s life on Saturday, May 31, 2025, which happens to be exactly ten years to the day of his mother’s passing. They were deeply connected in life, and now in death as well, as he was with his hero of an earthly father. His ashes will be spread beneath a mighty live oak tree planted in loving memory.
