Steven Lawrence Schmid

Steven Lawrence Schmid, age 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 24, 2024 in Fleming Island, Florida. Steven was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Manhattan, Kansas. He earned his bachelor degree in Political Science at Washburn University and then continued at Drake University where he earned his chemistry and law degree at the same time. After that, Steven earned his Master of Laws, with an emphasis in Patent Law at John Marshall.

Steven was the beloved husband of Mari Lynn Schmid, loving father of Luke and Nathan, loving son of Larry and Ann Schmid, beloved brother of Lisa Walters, uncle of Ben, Lauren and Mary, and cousin to many. Family meant everything to Steven, so making memories every year at Lake Okoboji, Iowa was a big part of his life.

Steven met his wife Mari in 1987, and they married on May 30, 1992. Once Steven graduated from John Marshall, he started his career in Jacksonville, Florida. They then moved to Chicago where he worked as a patent attorney and then to Atlanta where he continued his patent work. Finally, they moved back to Jacksonville to work as an independent patent attorney. He and his family moved to Fleming Island in 2006. He became a member of Grace Anglican church in 2007. Not only did Steven share his love of Christ with his sons, but he showed such strength, endurance and hope as he battled cancer for 12 years.

Steven will be remembered for his quick wit humor, his love of reading, his sensational knowledge of almost everything, and his infectious smile.

Funeral services will be held on June 1, 2024 at noon at Grace Anglican Church. Visitation will start at 11 am.
