Susan Gerth

GERTH-Susan Gerth passed away late Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2013, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 76. Susan is predeceased by her husband, Ray Gerth, of 52 years. They were married in New York, on October 26, 1957. Susan is lovingly remembered by her son, Raymond Gerth, Jr., his wife, Debbie of Alpharetta, Georgia, and her daughter Kym Burnett of Jacksonville, Florida; her grandchildren, Joshua, Sabrina, and Bridget Gerth, and Megan and Matthew Burnett; her brother David Lynn Metcalfe and his wife Linda of Syracuse, New York; as well as a niece and nephews; and countless friends.Susan was born in Louisville, KY on May 31, 1936. She was raised by her mother, Mary Margaret Metcalfe until her teen years when she went to live in Milwaukee with Helen Marot and her daughter Karen who was like a sister to her. After graduation from high school she became a stewardess for United Airlines where she enjoyed many wonderful/fun times. She met Ray and decided to marry him when he gave her a proposal she couldn’t refuse. They were married at the Justice of the Peace and four years later had their marriage blessed in the Episcopal church. She had many diverse interests throughout her life but the ones that stand out the most are of wife, mom, grandmother (YaYa), and treasured friend. She was a property manager in the Jacksonville area for over 25 years. She was a lady of great class and grace. She is already missed dearly.The family will receive visitation Friday evening between 7:30 and 9:30 PM at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida.The funeral service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held Saturday morning, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 5616 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida with The Reverend Teresa Seagle officiating. A reception will take place immediately after at the church.Flowers are appreciated or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Lung Association or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
