Susan Bailey Pope

Susan Bailey Pope of Jacksonville passed away peacefully on July 5, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Susan was born in East Orange, New Jersey to parents from middle Georgia, and was raised in Jacksonville. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and of Florida State University, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega sorority. Susan served with distinction in the Duval County School System for 33 years. She retired in 1996, having touched the lives of thousands of children at Merrill Road Elementary and Justina Elementary. More than anything, Susan loved her family, and was a faithful Christian. Those of us whose lives she was a part of are truly blessed.

She was predeceased by her parents, James Harris and Lillian Anderson Bailey, of Jacksonville, and is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Pope Rainey of Jacksonville; son, Richard John Pope, Jr. of Hinsdale, IL; her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lucy; and countless dear friends.

A service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 10, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. with a reception to follow at Epping Forest Yacht Club.
