FLEMING - Theodore (Ted) Stanley Fleming, 88, passed peacefully, May 17, 2016. Born in Ohio, April 23, 1928, Ted served in the Army National Guard, graduated from Kent State University (BS) and Ohio State University (MS). He was a devoted husband, father, and teacher. Most of his 37 years in teaching were spent at Andrew Jackson HS. A charter member of the Jacksonville Federation of Teachers, he saw the organization become Duval Teachers United (DTU). An avid surf fisherman until health concerns prevented participation, he enjoyed the natural beauty of Little Talbot Island State Park. He proudly sponsored the AJHS state champion Chess Club and actively supported the political campaigns of many Democrats.
Ted is survived by his loving wife, Linda; her children, Jenny Moore (Jamie), Chuck Horne, Alan Horne (Tammy); grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth, David, Mathew, Brandon, and Gina; and her brother, Richard Howard. Also surviving, is Ted’s daughter, Sandra Dixon (Nile), daughter-in-law, Glenna; grandchildren, Samuel Heath (Lindsay) and Kelli Dix; a greatgrandchild, McKenna; and brother, Robert. Ted cherished many close friends. Among them, Vincent Exley, Mary and Harold Pierce, and Callie Buckley.
Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Martha, and son, Rodney.
For the last twelve years, Ted was lovingly cared for by his former student, doctor, and good friend, Dr. R. Glenn Davis. The family also thanks Dr. Troy Guthrie, Dr. Richard Glock, the EMT’s, the doctors and staff of Baptist Hospital for their kindness and dedication.
There will be no service. Ted would want everyone who knew him to remember one of his jokes, bizarre observations, or his dry wit in general.
