Tommy Joseph Barnhill

Tommy Joseph Barnhill (T.J.), age 73, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on June 3rd, 2023. As a young man, T.J. proudly served in the United States Army. Soon after serving his country, he met Teresa Green, got married, and had two children. He went on to spend over 30 years working for the Anchor Glass Container Corporation before retiring in March 2013. T.J. loved the outdoors where he spent many of his days fishing or shrimping on the bank of a river, creek or pond…barefooted as most would find him. T.J. raised and cared for countless animals on his property throughout the years. If you wanted to find a horse, cow, chicken, rabbit, hog or goat his house was the place to go. T.J. was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Barnhill Strickland, his father Charles Curry, and siblings Jerry Barnhill, Julius Barnhill, Kenneth Barnhill Sr, Edward Barnhill, and Vernell Strickland Perez. He is survived by his two children Joni Bright and Jay Barnhill (Brielle), along with three grandchildren Julia Work (Garrett), Tristen Barnhill and Brody Barnhill and one great grandchild Waylon Work. Services will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home (1426 Rowe Ave. Jax, Fl 32208) on Wednesday, June 14th. There will be a viewing at 10 am with a service to follow at 11 am. A graveside committal will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery (4083 Lannie Rd, Jax, Fl 32218) at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Farm Aid charities.
