Unice Sterling (Hunk) Anderson passed away Sunday evening after a long illness. Hunk was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, having moved here in 1956 from Atlanta. He proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the USMC in the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific campaign. He later attended Georgia Tech University where he met the love of his life, Vassie. They were married and moved to Jacksonville shortly thereafter. Hunk was a founding member of San Jose Catholic Church and an avid golfer, having qualified for the Senior Amateur PGA Championship.
He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Allie Mae Cullen of Aberdeen, MD; his daughter, Margaret Anderson, of Jacksonville; his son & daughter-in-law, Stephen & Melinda Anderson of Dacula, GA; 3 grandsons, Joseph Scott, Jr. of Jacksonville; Matthew & Michael Anderson, both of Dacula, GA and several nieces.
A funeral Mass will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, September 4th, at San Jose Catholic Church. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 6th at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Hunk’s name to the American Heart Association.
