Violet was born in Chiefland, Florida. At Chiefland High School, she was voted Most Outstanding in her senior class, was a member of the Beta Club, and was editor-in-chief of the annual, Bow and Arrow. In 1953, she got married to her husband of 52 years, George, and moved to Jacksonville, where she lived until her passing. She was a homemaker for many years, but a few years after her last child was born, she went to work for the Duval County School Board as a teacher’s aide at Bayview Elementary and retired in 1998.
Most important in Violet’s life were her family and her church. She was a long-time member of Lake Shore Baptist Church where she served the Lord faithfully until her illness made it impossible.
Violet was pre-deceased by her husband, George; her sister, Faunita Hardee; her parents, Henry and Corene Durrance.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Allen (Paul); sons Richard Davis (Deena) and Tommy Davis (Sondra); grandchildren Katie Allen Losco, Zach Allen, Paden Davis, Erin Davis Gallegos, Kenzie Davis Allen, and Leah Davis Dew; great-grandsons Colter (Toby) Losco and Isaac Allen; sister, Joyce Arrington; brother, David Durrance; sister-in-law Beverly Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express its deepest thanks to the entire staff of Brookdale Avondale for the care given to our mother from September 2013 until the time of her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15th, at Lake Shore Baptist Church, 2363 Blanding Blvd., with Pastor Steve Mouzon officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 14th, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 Edgewood Avenue S.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lake Shore Baptist Church or Community Hospice.
