

Virginia Hicklin Taylor, 96, died on December 9, 2016 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on October 9, 1920 in Savannah, Georgia, Gin was the daughter of William J. and Gene E. Hicklin. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating from Landon High School and Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri with a degree in Theater and Communication. Gin was married to James W. Taylor in May of 1944 in Annapolis, Maryland at the Naval Academy Chapel. Gin and Jim raised a son and three daughters. She was a member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, loved her Circle friends and Bible Study Fellowship. She spent many summers in Montreat, North Carolina, making lasting and encouraging friendships. Her loves were flowers, birds, art and her mountain view.
She is survived by her children, James W. Taylor, Jr. (Letta Jean) of Kiawah Island, SC, Constance T. Crenshaw (Mack) of Jacksonville, FL, Susan T. Harris (Larry) of Black Mountain, NC, and Mary T. Somerville (Nelson) of Dallas, TX. Her grandchildren include Katherine Taylor, James W. Taylor, III, Taylor Sommers, McCarthy Crenshaw, III, Ginny Shea, Susan Mauro, Jay Crenshaw; Jon Crenshaw, John Harris, Bryan Harris, Nelson Somerville, Jr., Winsor Vanderhill, John Somerville, Ginny Hudnut, and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mig Hicklin; nieces, Barbara Harrell and Bunny Johnson and nephew, William James Hicklin, III.
A memorial service will be held at Westside Chapel, 4541 Shirley Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32210 at 11:00a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016.
