

Wade was born March 2, 1929 in St. Augustine, Fl. He was the son of Wade T. Carter, Sr. & Willie Carter. Wade attended Andrew Jackson High School and after high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Sergeant. He later attended the University of Florida and received a degree in Architecture. While attending the University of Florida, he married his wife of 57 years, Patricia Wadsworth Carter. After graduation, he was employed by the City of Jacksonville where he served the city for 40 years at which time he retired as Chief of Public Buildings. He was noted for his architectural designs of Homeless Centers in Jacksonville and also well known for Churches and the famous “Drew Park”.
His passions were his family, friends and most of all, his home in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina where he spent many wonderful times with friends and family.
Wade was predeceased by his first son, Christopher, and his parents, Wade and Willie Carter. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his sons and daughter- in- laws, Scott and Bobbie Carter and Clint & Wendi Carter, sister June Knight, brother and sister-in-law, Granville & Ruth Carter, grandchildren, Brittney Mangeafrida, Skylar Carter, Sydney Carter, Tara Jones, Michael Coleman, and Lauren McBride, great-grandchildren, Hunter Mangeafrida, Dion Jones, III and Lincoln McBride, Aiden Brawley. Wade has numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
The family would like to recognize his medical team led by Dr. Xie and our thanks to the many therapists who worked with Wade and especially the CCU at Memorial Hospital, who watched over our beloved husband, father and friend, Wade Carter.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel, where the family will greet friends one hour prior.Rev. David Malmberg will officiate. Arrangements entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4315 Main St., 904-356-6585. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main St.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you send donations to the Building Fund of Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church.
