

Wade Chancey, Jr., Colonel U.S. Army (Ret.) went home to be with the Lord on 10/17/2014. He was a 4th generation Floridian born in Jacksonville 7/24/1926 to the late Clarence W. Chancey, Sr. and Lucy Greene.
He received his primary and secondary education in Jacksonville schools graduating from Robert E. Lee High School Class of 1944. He earned his Bachelor Degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha. He was a Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
After serving with the 32nd Infantry Division in the Philippines during WWII, than going to Japan as a part of the first occupation forces, Wade was discharged from the Army as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. He was recalled to active service as a reserve officer in 1951 during the Korean conflict. He was then integrated into the regular Army, serving a total of 27 years. He also served in Viet Nam during that conflict later retiring and returning to Jacksonville.
Some of the awards he received while on active duty include the Combat Infantry Badge, two Legion of Merit Metals, Bronze Star Metal, Air Metal and the Army Commendation Metal. He was also awarded the State of Florida Distinguished Service Metal for services performed for the Florida Army National Guard while he was assigned to the staff of the Senior U. S. Army Advisor for Florida. Foreign service during his military career included tour of duty in the Philippines (combat), Japan (first occupational forces) Germany, Korea (defense forces), Viet Nam (combat) Panama Canal Zone, Bolivia. Following retirement, Wade was associated with Jax Bolt & Screw Co. as Vice President for Administration, retiring in 1988.
Wade was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty Gulledge, his son, Clarence Wade Chancey III, his daughter Susan Chancey Talbert (Charles), sister Ada Kline, Patricia Chancey , brother Don L. Chancey and granddaughter Bethany Mortberg. He is survived by his wife, Georgia A. Chancey, daughters Patricia Lundy (David), Barbara Mortberg (Jeffrey), step-daughter Pamela Washborn (Gordon), grandchildren Jared Lundy (Natalie), Adam Lundy, Rachel Grettum (Scott) Hope Mortberg, Zachary Talbert and 4 great grandchildren. Brother Robert E. Chancey (Catherine), sisters Cynthia Brown (Aaron) and Sonja Wright (Emmett) and sister-in-law Pamela Chancey and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from six o’clock to eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, October 20th at Hardage-Giddens, The Oaklawn Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, October 21st in Hobson Auditorium at First Baptist Church, 124 W. Ashley St., Jacksonville, FL 32202. Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218, at one o'clock in the afternoon with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Mission Fund.
