
LORD - William Delano Lord, 83, passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Mr. Lord was a native of Johnson County, Georgia. Delano began his military career with the U.S. Army, then the U.S. Navy and retired in 1970 from the U.S. Air Force after over 21 years of service. He then lived in Satsuma, FL and Washington, D.C. before settling in Jacksonville many years ago. Delano was also an avid reader. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Samuel Charles Howard, Sr. and two brothers. Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Loretha Lord; 4 step-children, Essey Howard, Traveine Howard, Geneva Matthews and Patricia Robinson; one sister, Ethelene McDaniel; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law and 4 loving pets. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, August 13, at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Avenue. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, August 15, at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Delano was a loving and caring man and will be dearly missed. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Vitas Hospice for their care and compassion.
