

William H. Monk, Jr. “Bill,” age 70, passed away on October 20, 2016 of complications from heart surgery. He was born February 13, 1946 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late William and Phyllis Monk. Bill worked as a history teacher and computer technology coordinator at Fletcher High School for many years. He enjoyed golfing, Atlanta Braves baseball, gardening and yard work, genealogy, history, computers and technology. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with Amy and their dog, Katie. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Amy Dowless Monk; his daughter, Beth; brother, Dale Monk of Huntington, WV; his cousin and best friend, Richard Nester of Green, OH; mother and father-in-law, Irma Jane and Stewart Dowless of Jacksonville and sister-in-law, Jill Dowless (Brad Kelly) of Atlanta. Bill was kind and thoughtful, with a quick wit and easy smile. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 24 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
