James Matthew Reese

James was born December 1, 1965 in Warren, OH, the son of Thomas R. and Mary Zaben Reese. On July 13, 1985 he married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Vingle.

He served in the United States Navy for three years, in the submarine fleet stationed in Bangor, Washington. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2005 after 17 years of service. He served in two combat tours, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked for the NC Dept. of Corrections.

James enjoyed physical fitness, participating in power lifting and mixed martial arts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship, and he enjoyed sharing his faith in Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughters Rachel and Mallory, and grandchildren Michael and Stormie. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas J. Reese of Columbia, SC, and Mark R. Reese and Paul J. Reese of Warren, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral for James will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Burial will follow the service at Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville from 7 to 9 PM on Monday.
