Samuel Eugene Avery Sr.

Sammy was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served in multiple capacities. He was employed with Onslow County Farm Bureau for 36 years. Sammy was an avid Carolina Tarheel fan.

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents: J.D. and Nannie Lee Avery and brothers Douglas and Harvey (Red) Avery. He is survived by his wife; Carolyn Jean Avery; daughter Melissa Avery Anderson and husband Brent; son Sammy Avery Jr., Mary Avery and Andrea Lanier; grandchildren: Spencer Clark Anderson, Avery Elizabeth Anderson, Kelsey Taylor Avery and Olivia Grace Avery. Sammy is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; Alvin and Marilee Avery, Cecil and Annie Faye Avery, Donnie and Julie Avery, Roger and Pam Avery and Alice Faye Avery as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thank you to Dr. Tim Patselas, Dr. Sheridan, Dr. Myers, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Curseen and the nurses in ICU and 4th floor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 100 Half Moon Church Road, Jacksonville, NC 28546.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 9, at Johnson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

A celebration of his life will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 10 at 11:00 a.m.
