Banks was born and raised in Jasper, AL. and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was married to his childhood sweetheart Niota; and they raised their family in Mobile, AL. He loved fishing and hunting with his brothers and children. Banks retired from Civil Service and returned home to Jasper in 1974. He enjoyed many retirement years "horse trading" and was well known locally for tractors, farming equipment, trading, and buying guns and knives. Banks was active and alert (a walking history book of Walker County) until the last 3 weeks of his life. The Lord granted his wish "to go in his sleep" and not suffer. With children holding his hands and praying with him, he went to Heaven on January 8, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Niota Bennett O'Rear; grandson, Lance O'Rear and brothers; Orland O`Rear and James O'Rear.
He leaves 3 children to mourn his passing, Ronnie O'Rear (Eleanor), Diane Langley (Joe) and Shelby Jo O'Rear; grandchildren, Tanya, Lanny, Raney, and Joseph; great grandchildren, Braxton Williamson, Breanna Williamson; Isabella O’Rear, Britton O'Rear; and Blaire Langley, Lyndon Langley, names sake Bankstyn Langley, Bennett Langley, Browning Langley, and Kol’El Langley; sister-in-law, Charl Moles, brother-in-law Christopher, “Smitty” Smith; and a host of many nieces, nephews, special friends, and other loved ones.
