

The family will welcome friends at the Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1 until 3 p.m. Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel with burial at Oakhill Cemetery. Levi Sides and Joey Sparks will officiate.
Barbara was born on August 9, 1947, to the late Doris Jean Robinson and Harvey Thornton Robinson in Cordova. A lifelong resident of Walker County, she was a graduate of Walker High School and Walker College. She went on to earn two degrees from the University of Alabama, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to shaping young minds.
For 27 years, Barbara served the children of her community as an elementary school teacher at T.R. Simmons Elementary School in Jasper. She poured her heart into her classroom, nurturing generations of students with patience, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.
Barbara was a member of the Sixth Avenue Church of Christ, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, loving heart, and commitment to her family and her church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Doris Jean Robinson and Harvey Thornton Robinson.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Roger Appling; her son, Johnathan Appling (Lindsey Kitchens); cherished grandsons, John Preston Appling and Jackson Appling; and sister Shelby Robinson Jent.
Pallbearers will be Tim Appling, Terry Appling, Phillip Appling, Ken Wheeler, Ben Wheeler and Caleb Kitchens.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to Southeast Hospice and Visiting Angels for their assistance during this difficult time.
Barbara’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her grace, her teaching, and her love.
