Basil Leon Cox, 84, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, at his residence.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday, May 31, 2019, from 1 until 2 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, burial at Mt. Joy Baptist Cemetery. Richard Handley will officiate.
Basil was raised on a dairy farm and no stranger to hard work. He grew up to be in the military and proudly served his country. He later married his beloved Bonnie and they had two children. Basil went into business with his brother Billy to own their own welding and frame business. He eventually bought his brothers half and incorporated his wife, children, and grandchildren into the business. He eventually retired selling the business to live out the rest of his days at home with his wife on the lake, which they loved. His favorite thing to do was sit on his porch overlooking the water. He was big on fishing or just riding family around the lake in his boat. He was a great man, who believed in the value of hard work and family. He cherished his family above all else. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Sue Smith Cox; parents, Herman Rufus Cox and Lula Hester Cox; step-mother, Minna Lucille Mickle Cox; brothers, Rufus Cox, Billy Cox and Wayne Cox; and sister, Gail Cox.
He is survived by his children, Jerry Leon Cox (Thelma) and Connie Cox Cannon; grandchildren, Crystal Fanning, Jonathan Cox (Tabitha), Brandon Cox and Amber Cox; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Janice Cox Scholl (Mike); brother, John Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
